RE: REBOOT RECIPE — REPEAT, REAP, REACH, RECITE, RECAST, REASON

Each morning is not a new path to take, but every dawn offers opportunity for a fresh take.

Every morning I/we can hit the reset button to change my/your outlook. And if I/we don’t like it, I/we can change it again.

Every early start has its purpose.

Whether I go to bed early or much later than my norm, I always make plans for an early start. Heading off to work early was my dad’s habit, so I grew up believing everyone’s dad did that. So when I started working, I took a similar view.

After doing something for so many years, it is challenging to separate work-ethic examples from unthinking habits I’ve made my own.

What is it, really, that drives us?

I mean, beyond our routines, habits and obligations, what trait motivates any one of us over any other characteristic?

A morning ritual is something I’ve written about often — to share, but also part of my need for a self-boot in the backside to get back on track or because I reach some new level of confidence in the value of what I do each day — how it keeps my mind focused, how it makes the chaotic world seem more transparent or less fear-filled.

I’ve been wondering lately if this has something in common with devout folks who pray and practice their rituals in service of a belief system — they know it works for them, and that’s all that matters no matter what anyone else believes.

And though I’ve not gotten religion or adopted anyone else’s mantra. Though I have borrowed from here and there, and over there too — we all do.

We build our life and learn to live it the way a painter copies others until they find their unique way; singer/songwriters cover popular material while developing their craft/style and personality. Writers of prose or songs or sports stories do the same.

And so it is, too, that we build our resume or portfolio of work done, deeds performed, or goals aspired to — they are our life, our trail left behind.
